New Deposit of Mordenite–Clinoptilolite in the Eastern Region of Cuba: Uses as Pozzolans

This work describes the newly discovered zeolites in eastern region of Cuba. In researched area, there have been no previous studies natural zeolite exploration. Therefore, results shown here are new. The main object this research is to analyse five samples and demonstrate their pozzolanic capacity possibility usage industrial manufacturing cements. study was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), fluorescence (XRF) scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A chemical analysis (CAQ) determine quality as pozzolans performed, determining total SiO2, reactive CaO, Al2O3, MgO insoluble residue (I.R.). Lastly, an eight-day pozzolanicity (PA) carried out reactivity samples. obtained XRD, XRF SEM established that two zeolitic phases: mordenite clinoptilolite. Altered volcanic glass, quartz smectite (montmorillonite) secondary phases. showed contain a considerable amount SiO2 well low content residue, which reinforces properties pozzolans. concluded analysed actively react with Ca(OH)2 after eight days. Based on all mentioned above, it both clinoptilolite behave like can be recommended for manufacture cements, more effective than Portland cement, terms physical, mechanical strength, heat hydration, resistance sulphates, CO2 emissions atmosphere negligible impacts environment.
